Message from Presient Dr. Hirokazu Ohguchi

Our organization was founded initially as the Society of Clinical Periodotology in 1983 by dental practitioners working in the field of Clinical Periodontology all over Japan, and later, became the Japanese Society of Clinical Periodontology as members increased. Since the organization became the Japanese Academy of Clinical Periodontology in 1998, we have been further developed to a larger academic organization whose 2000 members work tirelessly toward our goal together. Here, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the members as well as all the former directors and executives who developed their time and effort for the growth of this organization. Personally, I have had an honor of working as an executive myself for over 20 years since the beginning, and I am committed to continuously working toward the goals of our organization and keep our good traditions that have been with us since the formation of the early Society of Clinical Periodontology.
As we have become a non-profit organization, I recognize more than ever importance of our role as an academic group helping people, and I believe it is essential for us to bring the public more chances to participate educational and informational seminars in our national and/or chapter conferences, thus further promoting better dental health for Japanese people. One of our current effort is to make each chapters grow as strong organizations themselves. Also, as we are expecting the coming of Tohoku Chapter and more chapters mean more members brought in and that means far more active participation, formation of new chapters is, needless to say important and we are working on it.
Currently, our membership is limited to practitioners. However, we are considering expanding it in the future. At the same time, I would like to globalize our organization, and to do so, we would like to strengthen the cooperation with Japanese Society of Periodontology as well as American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Periodontology R.O.C.(TAIWAN), and our sister organization. Before closing, I would like to thank all of our members for continuing support for the organization. I am looking forward to working with all of you.
